On the death of Stephen Holmes Hendley.

WHEREAS, Stephen Holmes Hendley, a long-time resident of Gloucester Point, died on July 20, 1994; and

WHEREAS, a native of Plainfield, Indiana, Stephen Hendley moved at an early age to Gloucester, where he completed his education in the Gloucester Public Schools; and

WHEREAS, Stephen Hendley attended the Newport News Apprentice School in the early 1960s and began what was to become a 30-year career with the U.S. Department of the Navy's Naval Weapons Station in Yorktown in 1965; and

WHEREAS, widely respected in his community, Stephen Hendley was an active member of the Gloucester Jaycees and was instrumental in raising funds for the new Hayes Volunteer Fire Station; and

WHEREAS, Stephen Hendley also played a leading role in the restoration of the Revolutionary War Lost Point battle site on the York River; and

WHEREAS, Stephen Hendley leaves an enviable legacy of hard work, dedication, and effective service to his community, the Commonwealth, and the nation; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly note with sadness the passing of Stephen Holmes Hendley; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Stephen Holmes Hendley as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory.
