SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 56 Offered January 22, 1996 Commending Donald Lynn Meredith. ---------- Patrons-- Trumbo; Delegates: Cranwell and Putney ----------

WHEREAS, after a coaching career that spanned more than three decades, including 27 years as head coach, Donald Lynn Meredith has retired from his position as head basketball coach at Lord Botetourt High School; and

WHEREAS, a graduate of Fincastle High School, where he still holds the school basketball scoring record, Donald Meredith earned his bachelor's degree from Lynchburg College and began his coaching career at Floyd High School; and

WHEREAS, Donald Meredith was named head basketball coach at Lord Botetourt High School in 1976, and in his 19 seasons Coach Meredith complied an enviable won-lost record of 255-169; and

WHEREAS, during Coach Meredith's tenure at Lord Botetourt High School, the Cavaliers won eight district championships, made 11 trips to regional tournaments, and twice played in Charlottesville in the Group AA state basketball tournament; and

WHEREAS, a noted student of the game, Coach Meredith has also been an influential figure in the lives of the hundreds of young men he has coached; and

WHEREAS, Coach Donald Meredith's skills as a basketball coach, his competitiveness and quick wit, and the consistent success of his teams will be missed by high school basketball fans in Botetourt County and throughout the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend Donald Lynn Meredith on the completion of an exceptional high school basketball coaching career; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Coach Donald Meredith as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his accomplishments and best wishes for a long and fulfilling retirement.
