WHEREAS, on June 30, 1995, John M. Gazzola, Jr., retired as public relations director of The Homestead, thus ending a career that has spanned over three decades; and

WHEREAS, among the longest-tenured public relations directors in the hotel industry, John Gazzola, a native of Bath County, virtually grew up in the resort hotel he later served so well; and

WHEREAS, John Gazzola served in the United States Army during World War II, seeing action at the Battle of the Bulge and winning the Bronze Star, the Combat Infantry Badge, and three Battle Stars; and

WHEREAS, following the war, John Gazzola returned to Virginia, graduated from Valley High School, earned his degree from Lynchburg College, and taught school in Bath County for 10 years; and

WHEREAS, in 1962, John Gazzola was named The Homestead's public relations director, with the primary duty of promoting the resort's newly developed ski area; and

WHEREAS, through his many years of service, John Gazzola has tirelessly promoted the virtues of The Homestead, the beauty of Bath County, and the hospitality of Virginia, creating great affection and good will among the countless travelers he has met and helped; and

WHEREAS, John Gazzola's contributions to The Homestead are legendary, his love of his native Bath County unwavering, and his kindness and professionalism unparalleled; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend John M. Gazzola, Jr., on the completion of a sterling career with The Homestead; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to John M. Gazzola, Jr., as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for his outstanding accomplishments and best wishes for a long, happy, and rewarding retirement.
