SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 25 Commending the Northampton High School wrestling team.

Agreed to by the Senate, January 18, 1996 Agreed to by the House of Delegates, January 26, 1996

WHEREAS, on March 4, 1995, the wrestling team from Northampton High School won the Virginia High School League Group A state championship; and

WHEREAS, the Yellow Jackets from Northampton thus became the first Eastern Shore District team to win a state title; and

WHEREAS, the Northampton Yellow Jackets completed the regular season with a dual meet record of 18-1, then dominated the district tournament and won the regional tournament by over 80 points; and

WHEREAS, in the state meet, Northampton competed against the two-time defending champions from Brentsville District High School and outscored them, 156-96, to bring home the school's first-ever state championship; and

WHEREAS, guided by Head Coach Brian Harman, with the able assistance of Joe Dunton, the Yellow Jackets used the outstanding performance of undefeated senior David Trower, combined with exceptional team depth, to capture the state title; and

WHEREAS, in addition to state champion David Trower, Vance Martin and Andre Elliott each placed second in the state meet, Steve Parker earned a third, Freddie Ross and Nick Bravo each placed fourth, Mike Bendell finished fifth, and all earned valuable points toward the team championship; and

WHEREAS, the unprecedented success of the wrestlers from Northampton High School brings well-earned recognition and honor to the team, the coaches, and the students, faculty, staff, and many supporters of Northampton High School; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate the Northampton High School wrestling team on its championship season; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach Brian Harman in honor of the stellar performance of the Northampton High School Yellow Jackets.
