WHEREAS, Catherine Reginald Burns McCauley, a teacher of music in the Henrico County Public Schools for 35 years, died on May 10, 1994; and

WHEREAS, a native of Staunton, Catherine McCauley earned her bachelor's degree in music from Virginia State College (now Virginia State University) in 1939, after which she taught for several years at Booker T. Washington School in Staunton; and

WHEREAS, on September 2, 1948, Catherine McCauley joined the staff of Virginia Randolph High School in Henrico County as a music teacher; and

WHEREAS, Catherine McCauley later served as vocal music instructor and director of the Virginia Randolph High School choir; and

WHEREAS, for two years, Catherine McCauley served as music teacher at Brookland Middle School in Henrico, and then transferred to Tuckahoe Middle School, where she taught until her retirement from the Henrico Public Schools in 1983; and

WHEREAS, Catherine McCauley was an active member of the St. Peter Baptist Church in Glen Allen for many years, serving as assistant director of the Senior Choir for 10 years and also serving at various times as director and organist/accompanist; and

WHEREAS, during her many years of teaching, Catherine McCauley influenced and enriched the lives of countless young people, to the lasting benefit of Henrico County and the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of an inspired and dedicated teacher, Catherine Reginald Burns McCauley; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Catherine Reginald Burns McCauley as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for her memory.
