WHEREAS, for two decades, Mary Waters has been active in the Northern Virginia business community, in historic preservation efforts, and in the aviation and travel industry; and

WHEREAS, a native of Washington, D.C., Mary Waters owns a public relations firm, has for many years written free-lance travel articles, and has devoted countless hours to a variety of civic and community organizations; and

WHEREAS, her interest in historic preservation led Mary Waters to service as charter president of the Fairfax Historical Society, as a member of the American Revolution Bicentennial Commission, and as a member of the founding board of directors of Historic Vienna, Inc.; and

WHEREAS, Mary Waters has also served as president of the Vienna Chamber of Commerce and as a member of the board of directors of the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce; and

WHEREAS, Mary Waters' professional interest in the aviation and travel industries has made her an excellent choice as a member of the Advisory Committee to the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, to which she was appointed by Governor George Allen; and

WHEREAS, Mary Waters is also vice president of the Committee for Dulles International Airport and has served on its board of directors for many years; and

WHEREAS, for 20 years, Mary Waters has actively supported the aviation and travel industries, has given generously of her time and estimable talents to a variety of community activities, and has become a singularly valuable citizen of Northern Virginia; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Mary Waters for her many contributions to the economic health and vitality of Northern Virginia and the Commonwealth; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Mary Waters as an expression of the General Assembly's appreciation for her meritorious service.
