WHEREAS, George Nicholas Psimas, a prominent Portsmouth physician and founding partner of Portsmouth Orthopaedic Associates, died on February 17, 1996; and
WHEREAS, a lifelong resident of Portsmouth, George Psimas was a graduate of the University of Virginia and the University of Virginia Medical School and served as a surgeon in the U.S. Army during World War II; and
WHEREAS, in addition to founding Portsmouth Orthopaedic Associates, Dr. Psimas was active in many professional organizations, including the Eastern and Southern Orthopaedic Associations, the American Fracture Association, the Pan Pacific Surgical Association, the Medical Society of Virginia, and the Portsmouth Academy of Medicine; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Psimas was also a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a member of the American Medical Association, and a diplomate of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons; and
WHEREAS, with the death of Dr. George Psimas, the Portsmouth community has lost a skilled surgeon, a dedicated professional, and a fine citizen; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of Dr. George Nicholas Psimas; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Dr. George Nicholas Psimas as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory.
