1996 SESSION
WHEREAS, February 27, 1996, marked the final annual meeting conducted by David L. Luke III as Chairman of the Board of Westvaco Corporation; and
WHEREAS, David Luke joined Westvaco in 1952, was elected President of the company in 1962, was assigned additional responsibilities as Chief Executive Officer in 1963, and was elected Chairman of the Board in 1980; and
WHEREAS, David Luke provided leadership to Westvaco through periods of business growth, change, and challenge, including the growth and expansion of the company's operation in Virginia; and
WHEREAS, Westvaco Corporation has consistently demonstrated its commitment to the Commonwealth of Virginia by undertaking the company's most significant expansion ever in new equipment and technology; and
WHEREAS, Westvaco Corporation has continued a record of excellent environmental stewardship, managing its forest under a plan that provides clean water, diverse habitat, and recreational opportunities for Virginians; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate David L. Luke III for 44 years of exemplary service to Westvaco Corporation and for supporting economic growth and job stability in the Commonwealth of Virginia; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to David L. Luke III in recognition of his outstanding leadership of Westvaco and service to the Commonwealth of Virginia.
