WHEREAS, the U.S. Army's Battery B, 237th AAA Searchlight Battalion was formed in Townsville, Australia, during the dark, early days of World War II, when the Japanese had overrun almost all of the South Pacific; and
WHEREAS, the unit fought bravely in Australia, in New Guinea, and in the Philippines, building an extraordinary esprit de corps that remains strong to this day; and
WHEREAS, one of the very few World War II military units to hold annual reunions since the end of the war, the Battery B, 237th AAA Searchlight Battalion Veterans Association will hold its 50th anniversary reunion in Manassas on September 13-15, 1996; and
WHEREAS, the Veterans Association, which still numbers over 100 men, has held reunions all over the country since its founding in 1947; and
WHEREAS, Virginia is honored to host the 50th annual reunion of the veterans of Battery B, 237th AAA Searchlight Battalion; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby welcome to the Commonwealth the veterans of Battery B, 237th AAA Searchlight Battalion; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Battery B, 237th AAA Searchlight Battalion Veterans Association in honor of the silver anniversary of its founding.
