SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 138
Commending Cornelius Adrian Lemmers.

WHEREAS, Cornelius Adrian Lemmers, a former member of the Virginia State Police and one of the charter members of the Prince William County Police Department, retired on January 1, 1996; and

WHEREAS, a native of Gloucester, Adrian Lemmers attended high school at the Walsingham Academy in Williamsburg, where he graduated in 1954; and

WHEREAS, while in the third grade, Adrian met Mary Kathryn, who was to become his future wife; and

WHEREAS, two children, Cornelius Robert Lemmers and Kathleen Ann Lemmers, were born to Adrian and Mary Kathryn; and

WHEREAS, in 1957, Adrian Lemmers joined the Virginia Department of State Police and was assigned to the Alexandria office; and

WHEREAS, Adrian Lemmers' career with the State Police was interrupted by two years' service with the United States Army, in which he served from 1958 to 1960; and

WHEREAS, rejoining the State Police, Adrian Lemmers served with distinction until 1970, when he resigned to become one of the charter members of the Prince William County Police Department; and

WHEREAS, Adrian Lemmers served the citizens of Prince William County for over 25 years, rising to the rank of sergeant in 1970 and to lieutenant in 1971; and

WHEREAS, after a long and meritorious career of service to his community, the Commonwealth, and the nation, Adrian Lemmers retired on January 1, 1996; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend Cornelius Adrian Lemmers on the completion of a fine career of service; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Cornelius Adrian Lemmers as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration and gratitude for his dedication, commitment, and devotion to duty.
