1996 SESSION
WHEREAS, Jason Rotz, a resident of Frederick County and a senior at James Wood High School, stands as a model of courage and perseverance; and
WHEREAS, Jason Rotz has suffered hearing loss since he contracted bacterial meningitis at the age of two, and his disability worsened dramatically in the fall of 1994; and
WHEREAS, despite complete hearing loss in his right ear and partial loss in his left, Jason Rotz is an honor student at James Wood High School, played soccer and football and was a member of the track team, and runs his own lawn care business in the summer; and
WHEREAS, to cope with his latest setback, which resulted in total hearing loss, Jason Rotz underwent a cochlear implant surgery at the University of Virginia Hospital; and
WHEREAS, an extraordinarily complex operation involving a speech processor, a directional microphone, a transmitting coil, and a receiver/stimulator implanted behind the ear, the cochlear implant has proven a success for Jason Rotz; and
WHEREAS, thanks to the skill and dedication of his physicians and to his own fortitude and courage, Jason Rotz can now hear, and his continued success as a scholar and an athlete seems assured; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend Jason Rotz for his perseverance in successfully overcoming serious disability; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Jason Rotz as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration and best wishes for future success.
