961689749WHEREAS, Dulles International Airport is a major economic asset to all of Virginia; and
WHEREAS, the location, size, and configuration of Dulles Airport will allow the airport, in the coming years, to grow into one of the world's premier international commercial centers; and
WHEREAS, this continued growth and development is in the economic best interest of all Virginia; and
WHEREAS, optimal development of Dulles Airport depends, in part, on adequate and convenient highway access to the airport from all directions; and
WHEREAS, particular attention needs to be paid to improvement to and protection of land-side access to Dulles Airport from the north and west because of the relative paucity of existing access from these directions and for the purpose of relieving congestion on highway arteries to the airport's south and east; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the Department of Transportation, the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, and the Washington Airports Task Force conduct a study to determine the need for and feasibility of [ a ] northern [ , southern, ] and western access to Washington/Dulles International Airport. [ The study shall seek the participation and input from local representatives from the counties of Loudoun and Fairfax. ]
The [ study Department of Transportation ] shall complete its work in
time to submit its findings and recommendations to the Governor and the 1997
Session of the General Assembly as provided in the procedures of the Division
of Legislative Automated Systems for processing legislative documents.
