Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding in Article 2 of Chapter 40 of Title 2.1 a section numbered 2.1-639.4:2 as follows:

§ 2.1-639.4:2. Prohibited conduct for circuit court judges and clerks.

In addition to any other applicable prohibition in this chapter, no spouse of a circuit court judge shall be elected or appointed clerk of that circuit court, nor shall any spouse of a circuit court clerk be elected or appointed judge of that circuit court.
