WHEREAS, following 26 years of meritorious service to the House of Delegates, Barbara Jean Hurt Hanback retired on December 31, 1995; and
WHEREAS, a native of Hanover and the valedictorian of her high school class, Barbara Hanback began her career with the House of Delegates as a committee secretary in 1974; and
WHEREAS, as one of the original members of the House Committee Operations staff, Barbara Hanback assisted in organizing the office for the House of Delegates, and her professionalism and good humor won her recognition and promotion; and
WHEREAS, Barbara Hanback was promoted to Committee Coordinator, to Supervisor of the House Committee Clerks, and ultimately to Deputy Clerk of Committee Operations, in which position she was responsible for managing the daily activities of the office; and
WHEREAS, Barbara Hanback was selected to attend the Commonwealth Management Institute and the Virginia Executive Institute and was a member of the American Society of Legislative Clerks and Secretaries; and
WHEREAS, during her years of service, Barbara Hanback scheduled and arranged meetings to assist both House of Delegates and Senate members in an efficient and accommodating manner, establishing enduring friendships with many legislators and employees of other state agencies; and
WHEREAS, Barbara Hanback served under House Clerks Joseph H. Holleman, Jr., and Bruce F. Jamerson and under Speakers John Warren Cooke, A. L. Philpott, and Thomas W. Moss, Jr.; and
WHEREAS, for over a quarter-century, Barbara Hanback has rendered service of impeccable quality, professionalism, and dedication to the members of the House of Delegates; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Barbara Jean Hurt Hanback be most warmly congratulated on the completion of an outstanding career of service to the General Assembly and the Commonwealth; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the members of the House of Delegates join with the many friends and colleagues of Barbara Hanback in extending warmest wishes for a happy and fulfilling retirement; and, be it
RESOLVED FINALLY, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Barbara Jean Hurt Hanback in honor of her exceptional service to the House of Delegates, the General Assembly, and the citizens of Virginia.
