WHEREAS, for over 25 years, Margaret Louise Hawkins Leynes has rendered invaluable service to the Clerk's Office of the House of Delegates; and
WHEREAS, a native of Newport News, Margie Leynes graduated from Hampton High School and attended Longwood College and Virginia Tech; and
WHEREAS, before beginning her employment with the House Clerk's Office, Margie Leynes served as secretary to the comptroller of Virginia Tech for four years; and
WHEREAS, in 1977, Margie Leynes joined the House Clerk's Office as a payroll clerk, then became Fiscal Officer in 1978, and Deputy Clerk and Fiscal Officer in 1979; and
WHEREAS, after serving as Deputy Clerk for Fiscal and Support Services in 1985 and 1986, Margie Leynes moved to her current position as Deputy Clerk for Administrative Services in 1987; and
WHEREAS, Margie Leynes has been heavily involved in staff development, including the continuing education and training of the staff of the House Clerk's office; and
WHEREAS, during her 25 years with the House of Delegates, Margie Leynes has served with two Clerks of the House of Delegates, Joseph H. Holleman, Jr., and Bruce F. Jamerson, and with three Speakers, John Warren Cooke, A. L. Philpott, and Thomas W. Moss, Jr.; and
WHEREAS, Margie Leynes has been a member of the American Society of Legislative Clerks and Secretaries since 1982 and in 1984 attended the Virginia Executive Institute; and
WHEREAS, Margie Leynes will retire from the House of Delegates on June 30, 1996; and
WHEREAS, a soft-spoken but singularly effective worker who is always willing to listen, Margie Leynes has earned the respect and admiration of her co-workers and the hundreds of members of the House of Delegates she has served so faithfully; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Margaret Louise Hawkins Leynes be hereby commended for her many years of dedicated and devoted service to the House of Delegates; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Margaret Louise Hawkins Leynes as an expression of the House of Delegates' gratitude for her invaluable service and best wishes for a long and fulfilling retirement.
