WHEREAS, the state title, the Warriors' second in the past four years, was won in convincing fashion, an 84-57 victory over Northside High School of Roanoke County; and
WHEREAS, the Nansemond River Warriors, rebounding from a disappointing loss in the 1994 state semifinals, finished the season with a sparkling record of 26-2; and
WHEREAS, ranked number one in the state for much of the season, the Warriors lived up to their reputation by winning the Bay Rivers District regular season and tournament titles, sweeping the Region 1 tournament, then winning two games in the state tournament to capture the title; and
WHEREAS, under the expert tutelage of Head Coach Spencer Mayfield, who won his fourth state title, the Warriors relied on a potent combination of speed, defense, rebounding, and accurate shooting to win the state championship; and
WHEREAS, the sterling performance of the 1994-95 Warriors is a tribute to the spirit, teamwork, and dedication of the players, the skill of the coaching staff, and the unwavering support of the students, staff, and supporters of Nansemond River High School; now, therefore, be it
