WHEREAS, Trantwood Elementary School led the nation in its United Way campaign, raising $4,001 with 734 students in kindergarten through the fifth grade; and
WHEREAS, Trantwood Elementary School's efforts exceeded the United Way goal of 80 cents per student by collecting an average of $5.45 per student; and
WHEREAS, this fundraising effort exceeded the school's best fund-raiser in 1991 by more than $1,000, even after losing the sixth grade to the Middle School; and
WHEREAS, the funds raised will assist 69 local health and human services agencies; and
WHEREAS, Trantwood Elementary School has been honored by the United Way; and
WHEREAS, the students of Trantwood Elementary School are striving to be "Generation Excellence" through creative programs such as "Toys for Teens and Tots," "Cans for Kids," "Ice-Cream Socials," and "Karaoke Night"; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate Trantwood Elementary School and its students for their hard work and generosity in leading the nation in United Way fundraising; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the students of Trantwood Elementary School in honor of their contributions to their community.
