WHEREAS, facing their arch rivals from William Byrd High School in Roanoke County for the fifth time in 1995, the Cavaliers from Lord Botetourt prevailed in the most important of those games, 43-39, to claim the crown; and

WHEREAS, the Cavaliers, who finished the season with a sparkling record of 26-4, recovered from a six-point deficit late in the game to win the hard-fought contest; and

WHEREAS, the Lord Botetourt team, guided by Head Coach David Wheat, relied on teamwork and a stingy defense to mount the winning rally; and

WHEREAS, the Cavaliers won the Region III championship, also by beating William Byrd, to advance to the state tournament, where they defeated a strong team from Culpeper High School to advance to the finals; and

WHEREAS, the championship performance of the Lord Botetourt Cavaliers brings well-earned credit to the team, the coaching staff, the students and faculty of Lord Botetourt High School, and the Botetourt County community; now, therefore, be it
