HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 42
Offered January 16, 1996
Commending the King George High School football team.
----------
Patrons-- Murphy; Senator: Chichester
----------

WHEREAS, the 1995 King George High School football team completed one of the finest seasons in school history; and

WHEREAS, beginning with the opening game of the season, when they scored 61 points in their first victory, the Foxes from King George were dominant; and

WHEREAS, an undefeated regular season led to the Foxes' first Battlefield District title, which they followed up with two outstanding performances in state regional play, defeating James Monroe High School, 42-22, and Harrisonburg High School, 42-0; and

WHEREAS, in the state playoffs, King George faced Matoaca High School of Chesterfield County, a school with a proud record of playoff success that had defeated the Foxes only three years previously; and

WHEREAS, relying, as they had all season, on a quick and determined defense and a balanced and opportunistic offense, the Foxes came from behind to defeat Matoaca, 43-20, and advance to the state title game; and

WHEREAS, the brilliant season of Head Coach Roger Pierce's Foxes was dimmed not at all by their coming up short in the championship, as they finished the season with a sparkling 13-1 record and unified both the student body of King George High School and the entire King George community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly salute the Foxes from King George High School on their outstanding 1995 football season; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach Roger Pierce in honor of the King George High School football team's triumphant campaign.
