1996 SESSION
WHEREAS, Samuel Wilson Crump of Providence Forge, a former member of the New Kent County Board of Supervisors, died on December 26, 1995; and
WHEREAS, a native of New Kent County, Samuel Crump was educated at George W. Watkins High School, Virginia Union University, Hampton Institute and the Richmond Technical Center; and
WHEREAS, a veteran of World War II, Samuel Crump was a retired employee of Newport News Shipbuilding, where he worked for 44 years and was employed at Westminster-Canterbury in Richmond; and
WHEREAS, in 1956, Samuel Crump became the first African American since Reconstruction to serve on the New Kent County Board of Supervisors, a position he held until 1963; and
WHEREAS, active in community affairs throughout his life, Samuel Crump served as Deacon of the New Elam Baptist Church in New Kent County for 41 years; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the loss of a valued citizen of New Kent County and the Commonwealth, Samuel Wilson Crump; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Samuel Wilson Crump as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory.
