WHEREAS, William C. Dodson, Jr., a well-known, and respected legislative aide in the Virginia General Assembly, died July 27, 1995, at the age of 37; and

WHEREAS, as a native of Martinsville, Virginia, William C. Dodson, Jr., established his talent for leadership at an early age, and was the first African-American in his area to earn the Eagle Scout Award, Scouting's highest award; and

WHEREAS, William C. Dodson was an exemplary student, receiving honors at Ferrum College, where he attended in 1977 and 1978, graduating with honors and an Associate of Arts Degree; and

WHEREAS, continuing his education at the College of William and Mary, William C. Dodson, Jr., received a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1982 and was awarded the John Katzer Memorial Award for Exemplary Courage, Self-Sacrifice, Leadership and Spirit; and

WHEREAS, William C. Dodson, Jr. began his legislative service in 1982, when he served as an intern to U.S. Senator John Warner; and

WHEREAS, William C. Dodson, Jr., rendered fourteen years of dedicated service to the General Assembly, assisting Lieutenant Governor Richard J. Davis in 1983, Delegate Shirley F. Cooper in 1985, Delegate Mary T. Christian from 1986 through 1989 and again from 1992 through 1995, Delegate Jerrauld Jones in 1990 and Senator W. Henry Maxwell in 1991; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of William C. Dodson, Jr., a friend and colleague of extraordinary talent, spirit and determination; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of William C. Dodson, Jr., as an expression of the respect and affection in which his memory is held by the members of the General Assembly.
