WHEREAS, Vann Howard Lefcoe, a prominent Portsmouth attorney who was actively involved in a wide range of civic activities, died on February 23, 1996; and

WHEREAS, a native of Norfolk, Vann Lefcoe was educated at the University of Virginia, where he received his bachelor's and law degrees; and

WHEREAS, a partner in the law firm of McGuire, Woods, Battle and Boothe, Vann Lefcoe was exceptionally active in the bar and in service to the Portsmouth community; and

WHEREAS, Vann Lefcoe was a fellow of the Virginia Law Foundation, a member of the executive committee of the Virginia State Bar, a past chairman of the Virginia State Bar Disciplinary Committee, and a former assistant Virginia attorney general; and

WHEREAS, Vann Lefcoe served the Portsmouth community as a member of the board of directors of the Portsmouth Industrial Foundation, as a member of the board of trustees for the Portsmouth Committee, and as past chairman of the Portsmouth Planning Commission and the Portsmouth Social Services Advisory Committee; and

WHEREAS, Vann Lefcoe was also an active member of Gomley Chesed Synagogue, the United Jewish Federation of Tidewater, and the Beth Sholom Corporation board of governors; and

WHEREAS, Vann Lefcoe will be long remembered for his numerous and invaluable contributions to Portsmouth, Tidewater, and the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the untimely death of Vann Howard Lefcoe, a Virginian of great energy, dedication, and accomplishment; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Vann Howard Lefcoe as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory.
