WHEREAS, the girls' volleyball team from Mills Godwin High School, following two years of frustrating near-misses, won the 1995 Virginia High School League Group AAA state volleyball championship; and

WHEREAS, the Mills Godwin team, from Henrico County, had advanced to the state finals in both 1993 and 1994, only to come up short in the championship match; and

WHEREAS, in 1995, the Eagles finished with a record of 23-1, won the Colonial District title and the Central Region championship, and faced a strong team from Patrick Henry High School of Roanoke in the finals; and

WHEREAS, proving the old adage that "third time's a charm," the Eagles left no doubt about their preeminence, defeating Patrick Henry 15-13, and 15-9 to win the crown; and

WHEREAS, Coach Tracie Weston's Eagles, Donna Abbate, Julie Cole, Jessica Collings, Amy Fisher, Kelly Ford, Julie Kim, Samantha Kim, Shannon Lassiter, Laura Marcuson, Kathryn McCormack, Sarah McCormack, Amy Moore, Kathy Munoz, Audrey Ney, Abbi Pfister, and Dana Wingfield, proved once again that hard work and perseverance pay off; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly salute the Mills Godwin High School girls' volleyball team on its championship performance; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach Tracie Weston in honor of the Eagles' 1995 state championship.
