WHEREAS, Louis Henry Furr, a community leader and a devoted member of the Second Baptist Church of Falls Church for nearly 40 years, died on February 6, 1996; and

WHEREAS, a native Virginian, Louis Furr served his country in the United States Marine Corps and later worked at Fort Belvoir as chief of the Construction-Maintenance Division for 14 years; and

WHEREAS, a man devoted to his community, Louis Furr served as vice president and for two terms as president of the James Lee/Southgate Civic Association; and

WHEREAS, a member of the Second Baptist Church of Falls Church since 1958, Louis Furr supported the church faithfully in a variety of roles, including terms on the Usher Board and the Trustee Board during the 1960s; and

WHEREAS, Louis Furr was ordained a deacon of the church in 1967 and was a popular and effective member of the Deacon Board for many years, including a four-year term as chairman; and

WHEREAS, a man respected by all with whom he came in contact, Louis Furr leaves a legacy of dedication to his family, his church, and his community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the death of a fine Virginian, Louis Henry Furr; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Louis Henry Furr as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory.
