HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 333 Offered February 19, 1996 On the death of C. Lester Dorson. ---------- Patron-- Keating ---------- Consent to introduce ----------

WHEREAS, C. Lester Dorson, a long-time Fairfax County civic leader and trusted advisor to countless Northern Virginia elected officials, died on December 26, 1995; and

WHEREAS, Les Dorson moved to the Lee District of Fairfax County in the late 1940s and became active in local civic affairs almost immediately; and

WHEREAS, a 20-year member and past president of the Franconia Civic Association, Les Dorson was also past president of the Lee District Land Use and Transportation Advisory Committee; and

WHEREAS, widely respected for his knowledge and expertise in zoning, planning, and transportation matters, Les Dorson was instrumental in shaping the development of Fairfax County, from Metrorail and shopping centers to housing and schools; and

WHEREAS, Les Dorson was a founding member and past vice president of the Lee District Association of Civic Organizations, which honored him in 1986 by establishing leadership, professional, and citizenship awards for Fairfax County employees in his name; and

WHEREAS, Les Dorson served as parliamentarian for the Fairfax County Federation of Civic Associations for nearly 20 years, and in 1994, he received the federation's Citation of Merit; and

WHEREAS, a trusted advisor to many of the past and present leaders of Northern Virginia, Les Dorson leaves an enduring legacy of service to Fairfax County, whose present prosperity he did so much to shape; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of an exceptionally valuable and effective citizen of the Commonwealth, C. Lester Dorson; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of C. Lester Dorson as an expression of the General Assembly's great respect for his memory.
