HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 312 Commending the Times Community Newspapers of Fairfax County.

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 9, 1996 Agreed to by the Senate, February 15, 1996

WHEREAS, the Times Community Newspapers of Fairfax County won recent honors from Suburban Newspapers of America, which represents 1,500 suburban newspapers in the United States and Canada; and

WHEREAS, the Times Community Newspapers were recognized for excellence in reporting and were honored with 11 awards, three of which were first-place honors; and

WHEREAS, Executive Editor Tom Grubisich received first-place honors in the category of editorial writing for a series of editorials; and

WHEREAS, Kara Vick was awarded third place for coverage of local education and school issues in the Centreville Times and the Chantilly Times; and

WHEREAS, the Times Community Newspapers received awards for stories on crime, foster parents, the environment, education, sports, entertainment, editorial cartoons, and the "Total Guide to Fairfax County"; and

WHEREAS, this national recognition of the Times Community Newspapers honored the Reston Times, the Fairfax Times, the Herndon Times, the Centreville Times, the Chantilly Times, the Weekender, and the Vienna Times; and

WHEREAS, the Times Community Newspapers provide a valuable service to their readers through fair and insightful news articles that reflect the spirit of their communities; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly recognize the Times Community Newspapers for outstanding achievement; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare copies of this resolution for presentation to Tom Grubisich and Kara Vick as an expression of the General Assembly's recognition of the Times Community Newspapers' excellence in reporting.
