HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 301 Offered January 31, 1996 On the death of James L. Trinkle. ---------- Patrons-- Woodrum, Cranwell and Thomas; Senator: Edwards ---------- Consent to introduce ----------

WHEREAS, James L. Trinkle, the man who was proclaimed "the dean of the real estate industry" in Roanoke in 1994, died on October 13, 1995; and

WHEREAS, a graduate of Hampden-Sydney College and the University of Virginia Law School, James Trinkle was the son of former Virginia Governor E. Lee Trinkle; and

WHEREAS, James Trinkle was president of C. W. Francis & Son, Inc., a commercial real estate brokerage firm that served as a training ground for many of Roanoke's most prominent real estate brokers; and

WHEREAS, long active in civic affairs, James Trinkle served on the board of trustees of Hampden-Sydney College, on the board of visitors of the University of Virginia, and as president of the Roanoke Merchants Association and Downtown Roanoke, Inc.; and

WHEREAS, James Trinkle played a major role in the effort to build the Roanoke Civic Center and served as president of the Roanoke Fine Arts Center and as president of the board of directors of the Central YMCA; and

WHEREAS, in 1994, on his 65th birthday, James Trinkle was honored with a proclamation declaring "Jimmy Trinkle Day" in Roanoke; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of one of Roanoke's most valued and respected citizens, James L. Trinkle; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of James L. Trinkle as an expression of the deep respect in which his memory is held by the members of the General Assembly.
