WHEREAS, Martha H. Pruett, a member of the Vienna Town Council since 1988 and a community activist in Vienna for 44 years, died on December 23, 1995; and

WHEREAS, a native of Pennsylvania, Martha Pruett and her family moved to Vienna in 1951, and she became active in the community almost immediately; and

WHEREAS, interested in the schools throughout her life, Martha Pruett worked in the mathematics lab at Marshall Road Elementary School and served as the school's PTA president, delegate to the Fairfax County Council of PTAs, and Vienna's liaison to the Fairfax County School Board; and

WHEREAS, Martha Pruett's activities on behalf of the schools won her the Virginia Congress of PTAs' Volunteer Service and Distinguished Service Awards for organizing the volunteer aide program now used by most Fairfax County elementary schools; and

WHEREAS, in addition to serving on the Vienna Town Council since 1988, Martha Pruett was on the Vienna Planning Commission for 17 years and chaired the Vienna Metro Citizen's Coalition; and

WHEREAS, Martha Pruett also served as president of the Vienna Women's Club and the Southwest Vienna Citizen's Association and served on the Mayor's Advisory Committee and Historic Vienna, Inc.; and

WHEREAS, an enthusiastic advocate for her adopted home town, Martha Pruett devoted countless hours and incalculable energy to the betterment of the lives of the citizens of Vienna; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly note with sadness the death of one of Vienna's finest citizens, Martha H. Pruett; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Martha H. Pruett as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for her memory.
