1996 SESSION
WHEREAS, the Central Fidelity Cup, awarded annually by the Virginia High School League and Central Fidelity National Bank, honors Virginia high schools that excel in academics or athletics; and
WHEREAS, the Central Fidelity Cup is given to high schools in the three Virginia High School League classifications, Group A, Group AA and Group AAA; and
WHEREAS, the Central Fidelity Cup is awarded to the high school that accumulates the most points for participation in creative writing, drama, forensics, school publications and debate; and
WHEREAS, for the sixth consecutive year, Abingdon High School has won the Group AA Central Fidelity Cup; and
WHEREAS, in the history of the Central Fidelity Cup, no other Group AA high school has won the cup; and
WHEREAS, scoring points in seven of the eight cup categories and excelling especially in drama, forensics and creative writing, Abingdon High School scored 149 points to easily win the 1995 cup; and
WHEREAS, the amazing winning streak of Abingdon High School reveals a deep commitment to excellence on the part of the students, the faculty and the administration of Abingdon High School; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Abingdon High School for winning its sixth consecutive Central Fidelity Cup; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Berkley Clear, principal of Abingdon High School, as an expression of the General Assembly's congratulations on winning the Central Fidelity Cup.
