965915443WHEREAS, in September of 1955, McLean High School opened its doors for the first time, one of only eight high schools in Fairfax County; and
WHEREAS, 40 years later, McLean High School stands as one of the finest high schools in Virginia, consistently ranking in the top 10 percent academically and sending 80 percent of its graduates on to higher education, many of them at the most demanding colleges and universities in the country; and
WHEREAS, the first graduating class from McLean High School, in June 1957, numbered 145; with its 1995 graduating class of 322, McLean High School completes 40 years with over 14,000 graduates, many of whom have built impressive careers in business, the professions, and the arts; and
WHEREAS, a pillar of the McLean community, McLean High School, one of 23 high schools in Fairfax County, serves the communities of McLean and Falls Church with highly regarded and award-winning programs in a variety of academic disciplines and championship-level programs in music, art, and athletics; and
WHEREAS, the 40th anniversary celebration of McLean High School, which occurred on October 20-21, 1995, was a recognition and celebration of the unique contributions of this exceptional high school to the community, to the Commonwealth, and to the nation; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate McLean High School on the occasion of its 40th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the principal of McLean High School, in honor of McLean High School's 40-year record of excellence.
