WHEREAS, Navy Lieutenant Ronald Joseph Mobayed of Springfield died while on active duty in a helicopter crash on October 3, 1995; and

WHEREAS, Ronald Mobayed was a 1986 graduate of West Springfield High School, where he was an honor student, a successful athlete, and a popular student leader; and

WHEREAS, in 1991, Ronald Mobayed graduated from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, where he also excelled on the football field; and

WHEREAS, Ronald Mobayed attended flight training at Pensacola, Florida, and earned his wings in June 1993, thus realizing his boyhood dream of becoming a pilot; and

WHEREAS, in October 1993, Ronald Mobayed reported to Helicopter Combat Support Squadron Three in Norfolk, where he died in the line of duty during training exercises over the Atlantic Ocean; and

WHEREAS, during his tragically short life, Ronald Mobayed embodied much of what is right about American youth, and he exhibited the qualities of leadership, accomplishment, and devotion to duty that will serve as an inspiration to all who knew him; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly note with great sadness the untimely death of an extraordinary young Virginian, Lt. Ronald Joseph Mobayed; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Lt. Ronald Joseph Mobayed as an expression of the General Assembly's abiding respect for his memory.
