HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 16
Designating March 30, 1996, as Bird Clubs of Virginia Day.

WHEREAS, the Bird Clubs of Virginia, a nonprofit corporation comprised of owners and breeders of exotic birds, will hold their 12th annual convention in Virginia Beach on March 30-31, 1996; and

WHEREAS, the Commonwealth's avicultural professionals have long cooperated with various state agencies, including the College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech and the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, in supporting the preservation and propagation of rare and exotic birds; and

WHEREAS, over the past eight years, the Bird Clubs of Virginia have contributed over $50,000 to veterinary research facilities to help in the control or elimination of avian diseases; and

WHEREAS, the members of the Bird Clubs of Virginia have proven themselves leaders in research, education, and greater public awareness of the value of rare and exotic species of birds; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly designate March 30, 1996, as Bird Clubs of Virginia Day in the Commonwealth; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the President of the Bird Clubs of Virginia in honor of their exemplary avicultural efforts.
