Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 3.1-796.127:1 as follows:

§ 3.1-796.127:1. Prohibiting breeding, sale or purchase of hybrid canines.

A. No person shall breed, offer for sale, sell, trade, give away, purchase, offer to purchase or otherwise acquire a hybrid canine. For the purposes of this section a hybrid canine is the offspring of a Canis familiaris and another species.

B. Any person owning or possessing a hybrid canine shall have it surgically sterilized on or before January 1, l997.

C. A violation of any provision of this section shall be a Class 3 misdemeanor.
