Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That § 18.2-461 of the Code of Virginia is amended and reenacted as follows:

§ 18.2-461. Giving false information or reports to police officers.

It shall be unlawful for any person knowingly to give a false report as to the commission of any crime to any law-enforcement official with intent to mislead. It shall be unlawful for any arrestee knowingly to give a false name, date of birth, address, identification card or identification number to an arresting officer with intent to conceal his identity. Violation of the provisions of this section shall be punishable as a Class 1 misdemeanor.
