SUMMARY:

Senate Rules; status of member charged with or convicted of certain crimes. Provides that a member who is charged with a felony or criminal violation of the election laws may be excused from his Senate duties without pay. If the member pleads guilty or nolo contendere to the charge, he shall be suspended and the Senate shall vote on his expulsion. If the member is convicted, he shall be suspended pending final appellate action. If the conviction is sustained and the member does not resign, the Senate shall vote on his expulsion. If the conviction is overturned on appeal, the member shall be entitled to back pay and restoration of the privileges of membership retroactive to the date of his suspension.
