SUMMARY:

Goals 2000. Requests the Board of Education to consider applying for participation in Goals 2000 on behalf of the Commonwealth, provided the federal government does not mandate or require specific curriculum changes without the consent of the Board of Education. The national education reform legislation is based on the six education goals initially articulated by President Bush and the nation's Governors at the 1989 Education Summit in Charlottesville. The resolution also urges the Governor to consider accepting the federal funds set aside for Virginia's participation in Goals 2000.
