SJ 308 Study; Health workforce reform initiative.

SUMMARY:

Study; state health workforce reform inititives. Requests the Joint Commission on Health Care, in cooperation with the Secretaries of Education and Health and Human Resources, and the State Council of Higher Education, to study the organization and effectiveness of Virginia's health workforce reform initiatives. Although there are numerous programs aimed at recruiting and retaining primary care health professionals, there is no single organization charged with the evaluation of the effectiveness of each of these programs. With the increased emphasis on managed care and that system's dependence on primary care health providers, there is a need to evaluate such efforts and develop budget and policy proposals which reflect an organized approach to the issue. This is a recommendation of the Joint Commission on Health Care.
