SJ 282 Constitutional amendment; Gov., Lt. Gov., Atny. Gen. terms of office.

Introduced by: Madison E. Marye | all patrons    ...    notes | add to my profiles

SUMMARY:

Constitutional amendment; Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and Attorney General; terms of office. Permits the Governor to succeed himself in office. The prohibition against successive terms remains in effect for governors selected in 1993 and 1997. The amendment allows the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and Attorney General to serve two terms (either in succession or not in succession) but prohibits election to a third term. This limitation applies to terms beginning in 2002 and thereafter. Service for less than half of a term does not count in applying the new limits.
