SUMMARY:
Administration of government; creation of the Immigrant and Refugee Policy Council. Creates the Immigrant and Refugee Policy Council, comprised of the heads of state agencies which provide services to immigrants. The Council is to collect and analyze data on, and develop a consistent state policy for, the provision of services to both legal and undocumented immigrants and to work with the federal Immigration and Naturalization Service and other agencies to maximize the reimbursement by the federal government to the state for the costs of some of these services. The bill also requires the Council to appoint an advisory committee consisting of one representative each from the refugee population, the immigrant population, and a local provider program or service organization that serves immigrants or refugees. This Council will expire on July 1, 1997, unless reenacted.
