SUMMARY:
Corporal punishment. Clarifies the parameters of corporal punishment by amending the language excluding physical pain, injury or discomfort caused by participation in sports, physical education, and extracurricular activity to include the physical pain, injury or discomfort caused by allowed actions to maintain order and prevent violence.
Teachers and other school and school board employees are absolved from civil liability relating to incidental, minor or reasonable physical contact or other actions or the use of reasonable necessary force while acting in compliance with the provisions of the amended section.
This bill is a recommendation of the Joint Subcommittee Studying the Prevention of School Crime and Violence.
