SB 857 Annual organizational meetings of school boards.

Introduced by: Elliot S. Schewel | all patrons    ...    notes | add to my profiles

SUMMARY:

Annual organizational meetings of school boards. Revises the required month for the annual organizational meeting, to allow school boards with newly elected members to meet immediately following election to set their yearly meeting schedules rather than having to wait for six months to revise the schedule established by the previous members. Since cities and towns hold elections in May, the current requirement for July organizational meetings does not present a problem for elected city or town school boards and is continued for both elected and appointed city and town boards in this provision. The July requirement continues to be appropriate for wholly appointed county school boards as well. In the case of county boards composed of both appointed and elected members, either January or July might be appropriate according to whether the new members were elected in November or appointed in June.
