SB 639 Sight and hearing testing of public school students.

Introduced by: R. Edward Houck | all patrons    ...    notes | add to my profiles

SUMMARY:

Sight and hearing testing of public school students. Modifies the requirement for sight and hearing testing of all students by exempting those students who have been tested as part of the comprehensive physical examination required of all students entering for the first time kindergarten or elementary school pursuant to § 22.1-270 and those students whose parents object on religious grounds and who show no evidence of disease or defect of the eyes or ears. Students in kindergarten and elementary school are required to have comprehensive physicals that include sight and hearing examinations prior to entering school; the requirement for sight and hearing testing of all students resulted in duplicative sight and hearing testing for these young students. The Board of Education regulations specify sight and hearing testing requirements and will be accordingly revised.
