SB 560 Fees collected by or on behalf of sheriffs.

Introduced by: Joseph B. Benedetti | all patrons    ...    notes | add to my profiles

SUMMARY:

Fees collected by or on behalf of sheriffs. Raises certain fees, ranging from $1.25 to $4 to $12, and increases the fee for serving any papers returnable out of the Commonwealth from $15 to $50. The bill also combines a list of minuscule fees charged in criminal cases into one $12 fee for service of a warrant or summons or making an arrest, charged as costs against a defendant found guilty in circuit court. The bill authorizes a new fee of $12 for a levy pursuant to a writ of fieri facias and repeals certain fees which are either uncollectible or archaic (e.g., $4 for receiving and discharging a person from jail). The bill clarifies that fees are collected by the clerk of court on behalf of the sheriff for any case pending in that court and in connection with which sheriff performs the services. The bill is recommended by the Secretary of the Administration and has a delayed effective date of July 1, 1995.
