SB 288 Support arrearages.

SUMMARY:

Support arrearages. Requires court-ordered spousal and child support to include an amount for interest on the arrearage. Currently, the person to whom the arrearage is owed may decide whether or not interest will be charged. Also requires the Commissioner of Social Services to collect interest on support orders subject to enforcement by the Department of Social Services and changes the interest rate from six percent to the judgment rate. Currently, the Commissioner may waive such interest if waiver would facilitate the collection of the debt. A method for the accrual and computation of interest is specified.
