SUMMARY:
Uniform Statewide Building Code. Provides that, in formulating the Uniform Statewide Building Code, the Board of Housing and Community Development shall not limit the right of disabled persons to live in housing of their choice without an individualized showing that such a restriction is necessary in a particular case, taking into account the needs and circumstances of the person subject to the regulation. The Board is required to incorporate into the Building Code provisions for reasonable variances to the Code to permit disabled persons to reside in the housing of their choice. The bill also provides that adult-care residences must meet the requirements of the Building Code, in place of a more specific requirement that buildings be classified by use groups.
