SUMMARY:
Constitutional amendment; General Assembly; term limits. Limits members of the Senate to four terms (16 years) and members of the House of Delegates to eight terms (16 years). The limitations apply to service for both consecutive and nonconsecutive terms. Service for a partial term does not preclude serving an additional 16 years. A person may serve 16 years in each house or a total of 32 years in the General Assembly. The limits apply to terms of service beginning on or after the start of the 1996 Regular Session of the General Assembly.
