SUMMARY:
Constitutional amendment; General Assembly; term limits. Limits members of the Senate to three consecutive terms (12 years) and members of the House of Delegates to six consecutive terms (12 years). If a person switches houses, he may serve 12 years in the new house. A person may run again for the same house, after being out of office for one full term, subject to a new 12-year limit. The term limits do not apply to a partial term to fill a vacancy when the term served is less than one-half of a full term. The limits apply to terms of service beginning on and after January 1, 1996.
