HB 2563 Motor vehicle liability insurance.
Introduced by: Riley E. Ingram | all patrons ... notes | add to my profiles
SUMMARY:
Motor vehicles; liability insurance; penalties. Requires persons seeking to register motor vehicles with the Commissioner of Motor Vehicles to execute and furnish certificates that such vehicles are insured under liability policies covering bodily injury and property damage. The Commissioner is authorized to require submission of insurance certificates. Failure to furnish such certificates within 30 days of demand may result in the suspension of driver's licenses and all registration and plates issued to noncomplying individuals. Persons operating uninsured motor vehicles will be fined $250 and incarcerated for five days in jail. Current provisions in the law allowing individuals to register uninsured motor vehicles by paying into an uninsured motorist fund are repealed. The fund is phased out under the bill's provisions.
