SUMMARY:
Homework guidelines and driver education programs. Requires that the Board of Education develop model guidelines for the utilization of local school boards in establishing policies governing homework assignments. The guidelines shall address issues such as the relevancy of homework assignments to class instruction, the preparation of assignments and the development of good study habits, the role of parents in assisting students with homework assignments, opportunity to make up work, and appropriate sanctions to ensure compliance with school board homework policies, including disapproval of a student's request to participate in driver education programs. This bill provides further that students must meet the academic requirements established by the Board of Education and also comply with the local school board homework policies as a condition for participation in driver education programs.
