SUMMARY:

Public assistance. Requires the Commissioner of Social Services to establish a community work program to be known as Workfare, subject to guidelines established by the State Board of Social Services. Participation in Workfare will be at the discretion of the local governing body. Persons eligible for the Job Opportunities and Basic Skills Program (JOBS) will be required to participate in Workfare in order to continue to receive AFDC and, in doing so, will not be subject to time limits on the receipt of AFDC.
